Welcome to my website!
I am Professor (acting chair, Vertretungsprofessur) of Comparative Politics at the Freie Universität Berlin. I previously held positions as postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Texas at Austin, at the Humboldt University Berlin and at the University of Göttingen.
I studied Political Science and History at the University of Passau and received my PhD for the thesis “Constitutions and Presidents. How Formal Rules Constrain and Empower” after my graduate studies at the Humboldt University Berlin. During my time as a graduate student, I held a research and teaching position at the Humboldt University Berlin, was a visiting PhD student at the University of Texas at Austin and worked as a researcher for the Comparative Constitutions Project.
My research is in comparative politics with a regional focus on Eastern Europe and the Post-Soviet area. I am particularly interested in issues of rule of law, constitutionalism, constitutional design, minority and majority rights as well as executive-legislative relations.
