Welcome to my website!

I am head of the ERC-funded research group LOOPS on the logistics of protest camps in competitive authoritarian regimes at the Freie Universität Berlin (East European Studies Institute) and the WZB (Center for Civil Society Research).

My research is in comparative politics and I am particularly interested in issues of autocratic stability, protest, constitutionalism, minority rights as well as executive-legislative relations.

I previously held positions as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Potsdam, the University of Texas at Austin and at the University of Göttingen and as as Visiting Professor (Vertretung W3) in Comparative Politics at the Free University Berlin and of German Politics at Humboldt University Berlin. I studied Political Science and History at the University of Passau and received my PhD for the thesis “Constitutions and Presidents. How Formal Rules Constrain and Empower” after my graduate studies at the Humboldt University Berlin. During my time as a graduate student, I held a research and teaching position at the Humboldt University Berlin, was a visiting PhD student at the University of Texas at Austin and worked as a researcher for the Comparative Constitutions Project.
